Governors

Miss Helen Couch Chair of Governors
My background:

I have lived in the beautiful village of Veryan all my life. I attended Veryan School between 1978 and 1984 and enjoyed my time there, I remember it as being a happy time where I learnt many things and feel that now as Chair of Governors I can make a difference in the lives of the children that attend now.

When I left the Roseland School, I went to work for Cornwall County Council as a trainee in the Treasurers Department. I progressed and ended up being the Credit Controller Manager, which meant I was in charge of controlling the debts for the Council, attending Court and ensuring daily reconciliations were carried out. In April 1999, I left and went to work for Restormel Borough Council as the Accounts Supervisor; this meant dealing with the debts aswell as the Purchase Ledger and the Bank Accounts. At present I am working in the IT Section as the Financial Systems Administrator, and my areas are all the finance systems, which vary from the Leisure Centres systems to the main integrated finance system.

Since May 1999, I have been a Parish Councillor, and I am their representative on the governing body. The Christmas Lights committee was set up last year and I act as the treasurer for this group, I feel that this is beneficial for the parish. I am also in the local amateur dramatics group and this is my relaxing and enjoyable hobby.

I feel Veryan School has good links with the community and I feel this is invaluable to village life.

As a child I was welcomed into the Church and therefore have a strong Christian background. I feel that the school as a Church of England School has excellent values and encourages all the children to develop and enjoy their primary schooling.

If you have any questions or can help the school in any way, please feel free to contact me.
