Hi, Just a quick note to say that you are going to be greatly missed at the school after so many years committed service. You really were an asset to the school and I hope you have lots of good memories, I am sure the children that you taught have many happy stories to tell. We hope you will of course keep in touch and continue to send us lots of photos of Flo as you have both been part of School Life for so long. I do hope you are enjoying the lovely weather we are having at the moment and you can relax in your next seat.

Thank you on behalf of the School for the fantastic present that you left us it will be great in the Reception Area to show off what a brilliant and happy place, Veryan School is. Once again thanks for everything you have done at School and I wish you a long and happy retirement.
..........................................................................
Thanks Helen very kind of you - right now I'm still doing the websites so I can keep in touch.

Here we are at the next stage of our cricket reporting.
The quick cricket team have done the school proud by reaching the COUNTY FINALS. These finals will take place at TAUNTON(YES TAUNTON), at the KINGS COLLEGE and we have to arrive at the college around 10am and the finish is at 4pm. The date of these finals is WEDNESDAY 11th JULY and yes it is a long way but your support in any shape or form will be much appreciated. This team have performed and behaved quite brilliantly throughout this competition and to get a school the size of Veryan through to the WEST REGION FINALS is a fantastic achievement and we as a whole shoul feel very proud.
If anyone is thinking of making the trip to TAUNTON please contact me and i will give you all the details
THANKYOU ALAN TOWSEY

Hi everyone a cricket update.
We entered Asda quick cricket contest at Newquay on the 23/5/07
We finished as runners up on the day but we qualified for the area finals at Truro on the 14/6/07. The team of Ben Towsey,Nicholas Treneary,Paul Carbis,Jonathan Cutts,Nat Warren and Will Dean performed tremendously and there behaviour was outstanding. I was proud to take these children to this competition and will look forward to taking them to the area finals, and i am positive that with a little more practise and please a lot more support at the finals that the children can win this competition. Thankyou to Nats Grandparents for supporting us on the day and helping with transport. SEE YOU AT THE AREA FINALS IN TRURO.

This is great news Alan -well done everyone. Let's hope you get all the support you need at the finals...

I had the opportunity of taking our football team to Grampound Road tournament on the 20/10/06. The team performed really well putting in a good performance and there behaviour was excellent as usual. The team were placed in a league with Tregony,Grampound, Gorran and Summercourt. Veryan played Summercourt in the 1st match and they drew 0-0, they then played Grampound who they beat 1-0 with Will Dean scoring the winning goal. They then faced Gorran who they also managed to defeat 1-0 and Oliver Vincent scored the goal. In their last match of the league they played Tregony with who they drew 0-0. This placed them 2nd in the league tying with Summercourt, who they had to play in a extra match to decide who would go through to the semi-finals. Alas Veryan made an excellent effort but unfortunately loss the match 2-0 so knocking them out of the competition. In all Veryan played 5 matches and they were only defeated in one of there games. Tregony won the competition with Grampound Road finishing runners up. There were 20 matches and i had the pleasure to referee 15 of these (phew). I would like to thank the players Nat Warren,Michael Vokes,Benjamin Towsey,Isaac Spear,Nicholas & Jade Treneary.Oliver Vincent,Callum Innes and William Dean for the way in which they behaved during the matches, after all being substituted quite a few times(not a grumble or a moan in sight). well done. Thankyou to all the parents who helped with getting there children to the tournament and supporting them, and help during the matches and after with the players. THANKYOU ALL VERY MUCH.

Thank you for the postcard you sent us from your new home.

Exellent website. I was a pupil at Veryan between 1959-1965 and saw a few changes in that time. When I started, we had four classes ranging in age from 5 to 15. Then they built the 'big school' in Tregony and we were reduced to just two classes, one at either end of the school, the infants being taught by Miss Unsworth and the junior class by the then headmaster, Mr Gotch.
I noted Graham's comment about old photographs. I have got one or two - and might just scan them in.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
We'd love to see those photographs Reg. There are 3 classrooms in the school now and we are hoping to add on in the future. Thanks or taking the time to write, it's always good to hear from previous pupils. Bron Roberts

Greetings to one and all! Congratulations on a great website!

I am an ex-student who attended Veryan Primary School between 1948 and 1953 and have just viewed your website from my home in the South Pacific Kingdom of Tonga, which is about as far on the other side of the world that you can get! I lived in Australia for many years, and have spent most of the past 20 years living either in Australia or here in my tropical island paradise in Tonga.

Veryan School does not look much changed since I was a student, although the curriculum is a lot different to what it used to be! I keep in touch with Veryan through a regular e-mail exchange with Frank Symons who runs the Charity Shop at Veryan Green. He remembers when my family lived in the thatched cottage just down from him, and the house between his shop and my old home was once my parents shop.

Keep up the good work. Kind regards, Diana .............................
Hi Diana -great to hear from you. We know Frank well, of course.........thanks for the mail Bron Roberts.......teacher.

Hi Guys,
lovely to enter your site and see all the exciting things you are doing. My family came from Veryan, dating back to Bernard who arrived in Veryan from St Ives in about 1690. My Great grandfather left Veryan to set up a building firm in Grampound. I was born in Cornwall but emigrated to Australia in 1962. I now have 6 Grandchildren , 2 in Sydney, 2 in Melbourne and 2 in Ararat a Victorian bush town.
I have visited your lovely village a number of times and it is beautiful, you would be very proud.
Good luck to you all.

To everyone in Veryan School HAPPY CHRISTMAS.
Well we are coming up to 6 months in Austrailia and time is passing fast. The sun has been out and is due to be 35 degrees this Saturday. We are off to New Zealand on Saturday for 2 weeks in a camper van. Jack & Beth are really looking forward to it. We had our nativity play this week and it was funny to be very hot and for all the children to be looking forward to not only Christmas but their summer holidays.
Hope you have enjoyed all of your Christmas activities at the school and in the village. We have missed them. Its funny but in one way we have missed the cold and dark nights that lead up to Christmas.
Best wishes for a great New Year - Nicky Ian Jack & Beth

I have just been browsing the internet, as I came across a company, relating to my work, in Hinton Blewitt, Somerset, whose head office is in Veryan House. I looked to find out more about it, as by another coincidence, I have a cousin living in Hinton Blewitt, which is a very small village ~ it is remarkable that there are two connections in one little village. Anyway ... I bwent on to look on your village website and found it to be very good, especially your school website. I work in education and have yet to see such a welcoming and informative site. As a result, I had to say 'hello' from Veryan ( female, by the way). I have visited your village when I was younger and also when I was a very young girl. I still have two plates bearing the name 'Veryan', which must be nearly antique by now!!! All the best to you all, especially the children, who must always be nurtured and valued. It is lovely to have a picture of your community through the website, as I have always felt close to you all, because of my name. By the way, I have no idea why my parents chose it ~ I grew up in Weymouth, though am now living in South Wales. My name does cause confusion, conversation, and some amusement, though very ocasionally, someone says 'that's a village in Cornwall, isn't it?'. Love to you all, Veryan

Welcome back to the new school year. The school looks like a new pin with redecoration, repairs and windows cleaned.
Congratulations to all those children who entered the Veryan Autumn Show.

As you can see from previous comments, the school is hoping to develop a section of the website displaying the exploits of past pupils. There have been so many successes big and small and people wishing to keep in touch that this would seem an excellent way to use this great site. If you or someone you went to school with has something of interest I know we would all like to celebrate this.

Having read the great news below about our past pupils we were wondering if anyone knows what has happened to other pupils. I am starting a new page for this specific reason. Doesn't matter what your age - if you are doing a course or a job that you would like to tell us about then write to the above e-mail address and we'll put it on the website. If you like we can post your email address too so people can contact you. If you want to send a current photo that would be great but keep it small - no bigger than 100kb max please.

What a lovely site!! Well done everyone! Veryan School is very much in my thoughts at the moment as I've just started my teacher training and out of my year of 28 students there are three ex-Veryan pupils! I'm training alongside Kristina Waitz & Clair Symons, it's lovely having familiar faces around and we must have enjoyed our time at Veryan as we will soon be primary teachers ourselves!!
..........Great news Georgina. We are all really pleased to hear this news.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to write in this guest book it is very much appreciated by me, the website manager. Please be aware that if you write your e-mail address it then becomes accessible to anyone who visits the website. You should also know that any comments are first read by me before they go on the website so it may take a few days before your comment appears. Thanks again Bron

I like your site. I am an Old Boy - - in fact, an evacuee aged 8 in 1940, along with about 45 others (our London headmistress was Miss Colbourn). I don't know when we arrived and I don't remember when I left. I believe you have a "Register" that might enlighten me. Can I view it when visiting late next month?
.........................Nice to hear from you Terry. Did you come to the reunion we had for evacuees a few years back? We'd love to see you and I expect you will be surprised by the changes in the school now .........gone is the old cornish range...

Good Day Bruce. Your web site looks great from here in Australia. We have arrived safe, missing Veryan. Visiting loads of different places, wild life sanctuary, rain forest, mountains in the snow !!!!!!. Today we stopped at the side of the road to see 20+ Kangaroos at a billabong. Its a little different to Veryan. Will send you some pictures next time. Bron pls can you forward your e-mail address. Thanks Nicky Ian Jack & Beth ............
Great to hear from you guys 'down under' I hear it's pretty chilly there but no worries about missing our summer as it has been a terrible one! I see y have included your e-mail address here so maybe some of the children and parents might like to e-mail you -all the best Love Bron and all the staff and children at Veryan

My son discovered your site at school yesterday while researching his name. He was named Veryan so that he would always be aware of his Cornish heritage on his mother's side of the family. Veryan has visited his namesake town each time he has travelled to Cornwall from Canada and we have noticed the school in passing. Congratulations on a lively website ...I love the cottage themethrougout the site.
Thankyou for this lovely comment and what a great way to acknowledge your son's Cornish Heritage. We had a child in the school named Veryan a few years ago. Next time you come to Cornwall you must come to the school and see us.

Great site - easy to navigate, colourful, friendly look and feel, good work all!
What I'd like to see is an archive documenting the physical changes of the buildings that have made up the school over the years; the improvements I've seen in my time alone are impressive, I think it'd make good reading.....................................
Thanks for the nice comments Julian and this is another good idea that we could definitely look into doing ........B.E.R.

Very nice web page. I wonder if it might be a good idea to show old school photographs, (if any still exist,) of past pupils, myself being one{Circa 1953 - 1960) Unfortunately I have mislaid my own and would love the chance to reminisce upon and recapture the days of my youth!!

Hi,
The website is looking good. I would like to welcome our new head Mr Welch to our school and look forward to seeing lots more information about what the children are going to do at Christmas. Its going to be a busy half term with Music and Dance to be encorporated but I am sure the children will enjoy this creative term and provide us a great Christmas Show. I know the children are enjoying the swimming and its great to see them all have such fun, its just a shame we can only go for 6 weeks. Well Done to all the staff at the school in ensuring we've had a smooth transition period whilst the changes have taken place. Also congratulations to the football team that played at Goonhavern on Saturday, you made me very proud to be part of Veryan School - I look forward to watching you on the finals day.

Congratulations on a wonderful show. I haven't laughed so much in ages. The singing sounded really professional. A lot of hard work had obviously gone into the show and the result was brilliant. Well done everybody.

I would just like to say good-bye to Veryan. It has been 11 years since Alice went to the school ,followed by Jack and Lally and now Freya has left and my asscociation with the school has finished.I feel a little sad at this,so I would just like to say thank you to the school for all that it has done for my Children over the past 11 years.
Good luck with the new head teacher and the class 3 teacher.Mrs Surrige and Mr Gould are certainly a hard act to follow!!

We had a cricket match on the 10th of july, schools parents against Veryan 2nd's.
We batted first and made 106 and believe it or not Veryan 2nd's made 106 as well.
[shame about those two dropped catches Mr Gould]. I hope everyone had a lovely night, a big thankyou to the sports club for letting us use there facilities and gear.
Thankyou to everyone for playing[Steve is still getting over it] and anyone who helped in anyway. We held a raffle and helped to raise some funds towards the school roughly around £50 well done everyone. We'll have them next year lads.

Thankyou everyone for your nice comments about the web site. I thought you should know that when you put your e-mail address in the box, when writing a comment in the guest book, that it becomes available to anyone who wishes to write back to you. I have taken them out so far because I was not sure whether people were aware of this but from now on I will presume that if you put your e-mail address in that box then you don't mind other readers writing back to you. It is a nice way of getting to know more people on the net who are connected with the school. If you see a name underlined and click on that name you can write directly to them as I have demonstrated with my name.

I think the site is great everyone connected with it's production should be very proud. On the subject of showing childrens photographs i feel the children would be thrilled for friends and family to be able to see them on the web and i think it would be wonderful too.

Well done. What a fantastic web site. Very user friendly and well laid out. My son's grandparents will be delighted they can now just 'pop' into his school anytime.

I have some more photographs of Class 1 children with their faces painted. If you want your child on the news page just see me and I'll put their photo on if I have one.

After a quick run through by the designer, I am impressed. The site is easy to navigate and gives a clear idea of Veryan School and its community.
I like the curriculum section - maybe adding in some idea of Nat. Curr. levels on the samples of work would give even more information to help parents gain a good understanding of the work of the school.
